This field was just down the way from Battery Studios where Pyromania was being recorded. All the Leppards have a love for soccer and music, but the two dueled especially hard for Sav, as he explains here: "Now I was always interested in music, loved music, loved watching Top of the Pops as a 12-year old, moving on. I got an interest in playing guitar through my elder brothers. I'm the younger of three sons. I'm seven years adrift of the other two. So I always had elder brothers. My father was a semiprofessional pianist that would on the weekends would play in clubs and bars and stuff. So by the age of, I think it was 10 years old, I learned to play "Maggie May" by Rod Stewart on the acoustic guitar - picked it up really quickly. From then on, I just really wanted to learn to play, and thus wanted to improve. So there was a point in time where I was learning my guitar and actually playing football, but the real - it was almost a sliding doors moment where within a period of three weeks, it became obvious. Well, Sheffield United had turned around and said that they didn't think I was going to be quite good enough to become a professional. I had lots of offers from other clubs. I kind of was losing my love of the game at the time. And within this very short time period, I met up with Joe for the first time. And almost overnight went from being budding as a soccer player to budding Rock God. (laughs) So it was like Joe in a sense, in many ways, saved my life. 'Cause I don't know what else I would have done. I'd just been working for British Rail, the train company in the UK at the time. It literally went from one focus of being a soccer player to this other focus of like, geez, I'm in a band. And I think this band could be really, really good.
